Water Damage

One of the main culprits of foundation damage is water. Consistent leaks or flooding around your foundation can cause cracks, breaks, or crumbling that can become worse with time. In addition, this consistent water presence can weaken the ground surrounding your foundation.

Many homeowners attempt to fix these issues themselves, but don’t have the necessary materials or skills to address the situation correctly. At TRU Basement Waterproofing, we offer basement waterproofing that can address your foundation damage and fix it properly. In addition to our methods, we can supplement any repair with a French drain installation, which can help alleviate hydrostatic pressure and prevent further cracking and deterioration.

Poured Concrete

Unfortunately, poured concrete is prone to wall cracks. These wall cracks can look like lightning bolts and can let water in from the outside. If this has happened to your home, our professionals can fix it. We’ll begin by grinding the crack out into a V-shaped groove. After that, we’ll inject epoxy into the crack with precision and smooth it down with hydraulic cement. If it’s necessary to fix the crack from the outside, we’ll use the same method. However, we’ll cover the hydraulic cement with tar and install a thick, 90 mil rubber over that. The rubber adds extra protection to the foundation once the soil is backfilled.

Cinderblocks

Cinderblocks are hollow on the inside, which only gives them vertical, not horizontal strength. These blocks are prone to stair cracking, horizontal cracking, or vertical cracking that can compromise the structural integrity of your home. While some homeowners turn to methods like steel high beams or carbon fiber straps, we believe these remedies can be eyesores. At TRU Basement Waterproofing, we address a structurally compromised block wall with wall pins. We install wall pins by flooding the core cavities with high PSI concrete (reinforced by steel rebar). The concrete spans from the floor to the top of the foundation wall to mend your damage.

Stone

Stone

Water is a natural solvent and as it sits against a stone foundation, it wears away the mortar between the stones. The mortar then turns to white powder and falls off, yielding efflorescence. One way of dealing with efflorescence is through a process called roughcasting (which is similar to stucco work). The main difference is that roughcasting has a reinforced vapor barrier to block future moisture from deteriorating the new finish. This method also requires a French drain installation because of the water carried down naturally by gravity. Without the French drain, the water can build up and cause damage to your basement.

If the cost of roughcasting is too high, one foundation repair alternative is parging the wall. Parging is simply putting a new skim coat of concrete on top of the stone wall. This is more cost effective but doesn’t last as long. It will eventually deteriorate over time, as there is no vapor barrier.
